Food poisoning is a common and preventable illness that affects many Australians each year. It can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea, and in severe cases, it can be life-threatening. In this post, we’ll cover some tips on how to prevent food poisoning and stay healthy in Australia.
Wash your hands
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after handling food, and after using the bathroom or changing nappies
Cook food thoroughly
Cook food, particularly meat, poultry, and eggs, thoroughly to kill any bacteria that may be present.
Store food correctly
Store food in the fridge or freezer to prevent the growth of bacteria. Use separate chopping boards and utensils for raw and cooked foods
Use safe water
Ensure that the water you use for cooking and drinking is safe. If you are unsure, boil the water or use a water filter
Be aware of food recalls
Keep up to date with food recalls and avoid eating any recalled food products
